Atlético La Paz ties against Morelia at the CL24 opening

The "Paceños" came from behind despite being down a player for more than 45 minutes.

Club Atlético La Paz drew with the "Canarios" at the start of the "Clausura 2024". The team from Southern California earned a point after drawing with one less player in Raúl Rico's first official match as coach.

The first match of the tournament had a very intense game from both teams. Locals and visitors had one clear scoring chance per side in which the goalkeepers shined.

First, Morrison Palma went free on a breakaway and Sebastián Sosa saved the cross shot from the former América youth player. On the other side, Fernando Illescas had a hand to hand that Jonathan Estrada saved with his chest.

In the last play of the first half, the "Paceños" were left with a man down due to the expulsion of captain Kristian Álvarez.

At the start of the second half, the visitors took the lead on the scoreboard. In the 50th minute, Diego García took advantage of a second corner kick and scored from close range to make the game 1-0.

Despite the numerical disadvantage on the field, Raúl Rico was able to modify his team to be more offensive. The "Paceños" drew level in the 87th minute with a goal from the new substitute Eduardo Perez. The "sinaloense" controlled the ball with his head and shot into the área.

In their next match, Club Atlético La Paz will visit Celaya for the 2nd game of the "Clausura 2024". This will be played at the Miguel Aleman Valdés Stadium on Wednesday, January 17 at 6:05 pm (La Paz).
